Jen's Story, continued
She made her final payment on the loan, and our village manager, Loise Naipanoi, fully expected her to be first in line for the next, larger loan. When Jen didn't show up to make her application, Loise went looking for her. Jen had been hiding from the women in her group, disheartened and unable to tell them that her husband had stolen and sold the goat. She saw no need to go through the loan process again, as the expected results would not be achieved. When the women heard about her situation, they called the village chief to intervene. While Jen was not compensated for the lost goat, her husband was reprimanded and she was assured that it would not happen again. She is now back in the loan program, and her story tells of the power of the village women working to help each other.
