Traditional glass beads of Ghana are made from recycled glass. Bottles and other glass items are first washed and sorted by colors. They are then broken into small bits for making clear beads, or pounded with a metal mortar and pestle to get a very fine powder for making powder glass beads.
The beads are set into clay molds with a stick, that burns during firing, to mark the hole.
Beads are fired in kilns made of termite clay.
The following one-of-a kind necklace, bracelet, earring combinations were assembled by women from our borrowing village. Your purchase of these beads is a donation. A donation receipt will accompany your purchase. Thank you for supporting The Village Net programs. Your donations help others to grow.
